The RTR "as we know it" began in 1986. Before that Tyler Hancock had handed out flyers at British Car Day in Maymont Park in 1983 and 1984 to gather interest. In 1985 he contacted the VTR and got a list of members in the Richmond, Virginia area. In early 1986 there were several planning meetings culminating in a meeting at Tyler Hancock’s house to "start our club", as the meeting announcement said. This meeting on August 17, 1986 is where the club was officially named the Richmond Triumph Register and elected the first officers. The officers were President Tyler Hancock, Vice-President Jonah Bowles, Secretary/Treasure David Sie and Newsletter Editor Bob Duval.
On October 14, 1986 the RTR applied to the VTR for chapter status. At that time we had 26 members of which 21 were members of the VTR. On December 1, 1986 the RTR became an official chapter of the VTR.
The RTR has grown steadily over the years. We currently have about 130 family memberships in the club. We hold monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month at Stony Point School, 3400 Stony Point Road, Richmond, VA 23235, USA. Follow this link to Yahoo!TM Maps for a detailed map and directions. At the meetings we discuss club business, planning for upcoming events and the ever popular tech sessions. Our big event each year is our British Car Meet held in the past on the grounds of Stony Point School. In 1998 it will be held at it's new location The Boulders. This show attracts over 150 British cars and over 1000 spectators. We also plan and coordinate club carivans to many British car events throughout the year. We also publish a monthly newsletter called The Spokes. It won the 1995 & 1997 VTR Best Newsletter Award. It is a 12 page publication that contains articles written by club members, letters to the editor, free classified ads for members, tech articles, calendar of events, announcements, and much more.
